Clarified by Conflict – Matthew 15:1-9

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 15:1-9
Service Type:

In the providence of God documented in the Gospels, it is not just the progressive, positive affirmation of Christ's followers that provides clarity for the reader – but also the offense of the pharisees. The occasion of conflict again in Matthew sheds light on the dynamics of Christ's kingdom and authority against the backdrop of imposters. The applications of this interchange scream from the pages with relevance for us today. The question of “who says?” is often answered by a hundred imposters rather than Christ alone even in the minds of confessing Christians. Every decision has an implicit “because” attached to our practical ethics. Mat 15 reminds us how important the placement of the commands of God are in relationship to our reasons for everything.
